A Support Systems Engineer is a key element within the Rackspace support infrastructure and is expected to provide a high level of technical support to our customers over the phone and via support tickets. A Linux Systems Engineer is the owner of complex customer issues which may take several days or weeks to resolve. Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following:

- Knowledge of Linux servers.
- General knowledge of servers/computer hardware and software.
- General knowledge of DNS and networking fundamentals including diagnostics with Linux tools.
- General knowledge of system services (i.e., IIS, MS Exchange, MS SQL, MS Clustering, Active Directory).
- Continually expands knowledge in the areas of new developments and trends; may make recommendations to management on desirable additions and developments.
- Requires approximately 3+ years working in a computer technical field.
- Requires 2+ years experience in an enterprise server environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering related field or equivalent work experience, preferred.
- Technical certifications or equivalent knowledge required.
- Good ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in order to maintain required productivity levels.

To succeed in this role, you must have a fundamental understanding of server hardware and software, as well as excellent knowledge of the Linux operating system. Having Linux-related certifications is a big plus, like Red Hat, UCP, CompTIA and MySQL. Experience working in cloud environments is preferred. Ideally, candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent work experience.
