Job Description
The Data Centre Operations Technician is responsible for building custom ordered servers. The Technician monitors, troubleshoots, and repairs servers with hardware and network problems. The Technician works with minimal supervision in a high stress environment.
Responsibilities:
- Build, upgrade and configure custom ordered servers spanning several different platforms and configurations
- Monitor, troubleshoot and repair upgrade and downgrade servers with hardware and network problems
- Monitor all Electrical, Mechanical and Emergency Generator systems and report as appropriate. Routine up keeping and cleaning
- Escalate tickets as needed and collaborate with teammates to resolve customer issues
Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Previous experience of building and repairing PCs and Servers
- Previous experience administrating Windows or Unix based operating systems
- Previous experience in a customer service orientated position preferred
- The ability to build a server from scratch, including an understanding of RAID configurations
- Cabling
- Familiarity with network architecture and configuration
- Knowledge in at least one of: Linux, Windows Server, FreeBSD
- Good knowledge of PC and Server Hardware
- An inherent flair to go above and beyond (a fanatical customer service attitude)
- Due to the nature of the position, the ability to lift at least 15kg (33lb)
- Due to the 24x7 operations of the facility, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays etc
- Hardworking and copes well under high pressure
